Zorgvliet Launches Flagship Range
The historic Zorgvliet Wine Estate in the Banhoek Valley near Stellenbosch this week launched the maiden vintages in their flagship Zorgvliet range as well as the latest vintages in the Silver Myn range. The working wine estate was named as one of the country’s most successful cellars last year and continues to produce award-winning wines.
The flagship Zorgvliet range consists of a Zorgvliet Sauvignon Blanc 2004 and 2005, a Zorgvliet Shiraz 2003 and a Zorgvliet Cabernet Sauvignon 2003.
The Zorgvliet Sauvignon Blanc is harvested from a single vineyard block high up on the Simonsberg Mountain that is completely south facing and gives the wine a multi-layered complexity.
The Zorgvliet Cabernet Sauvignon embodies the unique terroir of the Banhoek Valley and delivers massive structure with elegance and balance. The coffee stone soil down on the floor of the valley also gives the Zorgvliet Shiraz its unique flavours and integrated palate.
The premium Zorgvliet Silver Myn range derives its name from the estate’s rich cultural history and proud winemaking tradition, which dates back to 1692. According to local folklore, a crook convinced investors that he had discovered a silver deposit in the Simonsberg in 1740. Old trenches on the farm are still proof of the five-year life of the “salted” silver mine. The Silver Myn range consists of a Dry Rosé 2005, a Sauvignon Blanc 2005 and Chardonnay 2005 as well as a Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, a Merlot Cabernet Franc 2003 and a Cabernet Franc 2004, Petit Verdot 2004 and Shiraz 2004.
According to winemaker Bruwer Raats, they are absolutely delighted with the performance of the premium Zorgvliet Silver Myn range. “Since the launch of the maiden vintage, this range has received a great response and it is especially satisfying when a panel of international wine judges recognises the consistency in quality of this range as six of the seven wines in the range received medals for two consecutive years.”
