Six Medals for Zorgvliet at Michelangelo

Zorgvliet Wine Estate, located in the beautiful Bankhoek Valley near Stellenbosch, added more accolades to their trophy cabinet when the estate walked away with six medals at this weekend’s Michelangelo International Wine Awards. For the second year in a row, the estate was amongst the gold medal winners at this prestigious international competition.

The Zorgvliet Silver Myn Sauvignon Blanc 2005 and the Zorgvliet Silver Myn Petit Verdot 2004 were awarded gold medals.

A further four wines received silver medals, namely the Zorgvliet Silver Myn Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, the Zorgvliet Silver Myn Merlot/Cabernet Franc 2003, the Zorgvliet Silver Myn Cabernet Franc 2004 and the Zorgvliet Silver Myn Chardonnay 2005.

The name of the premium Silver Myn range was inspired by the estate’s rich cultural history and proud winemaking tradition, which dates back to 1692. According to local folklore, a crook convinced investors that had discovered a silver deposit in the Simonsberg in 1740. Old trenches on the farm are still proof of the five-year life of the “salted” silver mine.

According to winemaker Bruwer Raats, they are absolutely delighted with the performance of the premium Zorgvliet Silver Myn range. “Since the launch of the maiden vintage, this range has received a great response and it is especially satisfying when a panel of international wine judges recognizes the consistency in quality of this range as six of the seven wines in the range received medals.”
